Two AAA-rated games are coming this October, with SEGA's Sonic Superstars and Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. Wonder both dropping for the public at almost the same time. Sonic and Mario's massive rivalry during the early days of console gaming is yet to be seen again, with the new Wonder game's producer saying that this is somewhat of a coincidence.

While this is a curious case of déjà vu, it will bring both anticipated games to the world, centering on the renowned franchises and characters competing yet again in the present.

Sonic Superstars is coming to the world and multiple platforms by October 17, showcasing a modern classic take on the franchise, featuring a 2D high-speed Sonic action platformer. This game features the likes of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose harnessing the newfound "Emerald" powers to improve their attacks and movement in the game.

On the other hand, Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. Wonder is coming this October 20, centering on Mario's adventure in the Flower Kingdom, also capturing a 2D action platformer genre that takes users back to the Classic Mario experience.

The two games are merely three days away from each release, attracting the attention of the public with its seeming rivalry re-ignited yet again.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder Producer Calls This 'Interesting Coincidence'

A report by Game Informer shares the interview with Super Mario Bros. Wonder producer, Takashi Tezuka, claiming that the close release dates of the Sonic and Mario games is an "interesting coincidence."

Despite the heated rivalry of Nintendo and SEGA in both the past and present, there are no negative hints heard from Tezuka, "We're looking forward to as many people as possible having the opportunity to play these 2D side-scrolling action games, Mario and otherwise."

Modern Day Nintendo vs. SEGA

Two of the most notable gaming franchise characters in the world, both hailing from Japan, are set for another clash in the gaming industry, with fans set to receive their AAA-rated games later this month.

In the red corner, there is the beloved human plumber from Nintendo, with Super Mario Bros. Wonder coming soon to bring yet another platformer adventure for users exclusively available to the Nintendo Switch.

On the other hand, blue corner's Sonic Superstars is also set to speed towards the release date, featuring the latest game from SEGA that follows last year's Sonic Frontiers (not a direct sequel to the game). A notable thing with the Sonic game is that it is not a console-exclusive game, with SEGA making it available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, Windows 4, and old-gen platforms like PS4 and Xbox One.

The modern-day rivalry between Nintendo and SEGA is bringing the same taste as what it had in the past, leveraging their top franchises for the world to enjoy. Whether you are getting the Sonic Superstars, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, or both titles, it still gives users a blast of the past with its close release dates, coming this late October.
