Many have used and manipulated AI tools to do their bidding, and despite the many restrictions and safeguards of the tech, several 4chan users have been using it to promote hate and racism, posting them as "memes" on the platform. AI is already facing a significant backlash, and this new campaign elevates more the tension against the tech and its capabilities to create such campaigns.

In the 4chan thread, users have been recommending different AI platforms to use, with some offering the "quickest" method of creating these kinds of posts.

A report by 404 Media has claimed that 4chan is now becoming a breeding ground for users who manipulate AI and create hateful, racist memes which are compiled in its thread. However, it does not stop there, as these users encourage others to join them in doing so, recommending different AI tools that others may use in taking part in this campaign.

These users recommend the likes of Stable Diffusion and OpenAI's DALL-E, giving significant highlights to Microsoft's Bing and its text-to-image generator which uses DALL-E 3.

Users also instruct others in the thread to spread these racist memes to social media platforms including the likes of Telegram, Instagram, and X.

Manipulating AI to Create Hurtful Memes?

The possibilities are endless for AI, and this is because it allows users a sense of freedom in creating the content they want, with some platforms keen on filtering and preventing this from happening. However, these said users are manipulating AI tools into doing their bidding, using this tech to create hurtful and racist content that matches it with "funny, provocative" captions when posting.

The Dangers of AI

AI is powerful, and even at its early stages where companies like OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and more are leading it, they already provide some advancing technologies available here. However, at this age, generative AI already has the power to manipulate the truth, with experts, and an Australian Military Chief regards the start of "truth decay" brought by this revolution.

Previously, top tech executives signed an open letter that aimed to delay or slow down the development of modern-day AI, backed by some of the most famous names in tech. This included Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, Stability AI's Emad Mostaque, GettyImages' Craig Peters, and Pinterest co-founder Evan Sharp.

Even researchers claimed that AI could go as far as being manipulated to become a national security threat, and this could be directed to any nation and not just the US.

Lawless platforms that allow almost anything are a breeding ground for similar interests that are harmful, hurtful, hateful, and more, with 4chan users now on fire for their recent campaigns. AI is powerful, and this goes both the positive and negative ways, with the 4chan users manipulating the likes of Microsoft Bing, OpenAI's DALL-E, and more to create these antagonizing memes.
