study published this week on Nature Communications is now detailing new findings about Climate Change and its effects, particularly on beer quality, expected to see drastic changes by 2050. Researchers from the Global Change Research Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, along with its partners have seen this in their latest probe in the ever-changing climate of the world.

This study forecasted a four to 18 percent drop in hop yield, as well as a 20 to 31 percent shortage in alpha content in the next 27 years.

Researchers found that because of Climate Change, hops are ripening 20 days earlier than their expected timeline, comparing it to almost 20 years ago from the data before 1994.

How Does Climate Change Affect Beer?

Hops are best known to be a key ingredient in brewing beer, and this significant decline in its quantity and quality may take place in the next 27 years, by 2050. According to The Guardian, it will affect the top hop-growing areas in the world, mainly centered in Europe including Germany, the Czech Republic, and Slovenia.

"Beer drinkers will definitely see the climate change, either in the price tag or the quality. That seems to be inevitable from our data," said Miroslav Trnka, co-author of the study.

Climate Change and its Effects

Climate Change may sound to be what is normally happening now, but various advocates and experts are still campaigning for its awareness and for humans to change their ways towards addressing this problem. Because of Climate Change, there is Global Warming, and with the Earth heating up, the world's ice is melting and causing rising sea levels, feared for future destructive floods

Apart from the massive global changes brought by this phenomenon, climate disasters are also set to wreak havoc in the world, events that are already costly for their effects in the present. In the US, a record-breaking 23 climate disasters have already cost the government as much as $1 billion or more for each occurrence, and it is expected to grow more in the future.

It was once said, "If you are not a climate advocate now, then when?" and it presents a significant question to the world and some communities that are still disregarding this phenomenon as if it is nothing. Climate Change is here, and there are plenty of ways to contribute to fighting against it and saving the Earth, particularly by saving your favorite alcoholic beverage in the future.
