Apple TV: FaceTime Calls, Karaoke Now Available via tvOS 17—What to Expect

The famed interconnected experience from Apple is not only for its mobile devices but also for the Apple TV as the tvOS 17 update is here, featuring FaceTime and the karaoke-like features to the 4K black box. Through the iPhone and its Continuity Camera feature, more experiences are coming to the Apple TV, offering more to do and enjoy apart from streaming movies and series.

Apple TV: FaceTime, Apple Music Sing Karaoke Coming

Back in WWDC 2023, Apple promised massive changes to the Apple TV experience, as FaceTime and Apple Music Sing, a.k.a. live karaoke, are set to be part of the black box experience. Now, these features are live as the tvOS 17 rolls out for all to download, bringing the massive features announced earlier available to enjoy and access together with one's iPhone.

FaceTime's arrival to the television would give users a bigger display for their loved ones or professional setups, with the quality not getting compromised as it will use the iPhone's rear camera to stream the feed. Its mic would also use the built-in to the iPhone, offering clear and crisp audio for the receiver.

However, that is not all, as another featured experience here is the Apple Music Sing, a feature that will allow users to enjoy karaoke sessions either solo or in groups, with the Continuity Camera also capturing the live feed of them jamming to the songs.

Upgrade to tvOS 17 to Get the Latest Experiences

The tvOS 17 was initially made available last September 18, but for those who have not yet found the time to upgrade, well this is a sign for you to do so. It features a revamped Control Center for better access to key settings, Siri Remote locator, Continuity Camera improvements, screen savers using the iPhone's shared library from its Memories, and Enhanced Dialogue for Apple TV+ shows via HomePod.

The Apple TV has come a long way since its original iteration where it features a black box that can deliver high-definition streams for its users. Since Apple introduced its massive upgrades to the device, Apple TV users have been met with iconic features such as games streaming on the black box via Apple Arcade, with many titles constantly updated to join its massive library.

Earlier this WWDC 2023, Apple TV was again part of the showcase for the new features that would arrive on the device, and one of its main focuses is its connectivity to the iPhone. This brought massive possibilities for the device, including the capability to video conference using the TV or sing karaoke via Apple Music using the iPhone's renowned Continuity Camera, first available to Macs.
