After holding out in adopting the renowned electric vehicle charging standard, Toyota and Lexus now cave to it and announced their coming integration of the Tesla NACS. The NACS, which is known as the North American Charging Standard, has seen various automakers and companies joining its use, looking to feature the new ports starting in 2025 to effect the changes.

The growing adoption of Tesla NACS in the tech industry only shows how it established itself to be the standard, making it the future port present in most EVs.

In a recent press release by Toyota Motor North America (TMNA), the company announced that it reached an agreement with Tesla, Inc., with the Japanese car brand soon adopting the NACS ports by 2025. This will focus on all the battery electric vehicles (BEVs) of Toyota and Lexus, as part of the company's electrification strategy that adds more compatibility.

NACS adoption is growing, and it is not only the small brands that chose to integrate the Tesla design into their EVs, as the most recent before Toyota was BMW.

Starting in 2025, Toyota said that its brand-new BEVs, or those released that year will feature the NACS ports, with those on the Combined Charging System (CCS) getting an adapter.

Apart from getting the famed NACS ports for their EVs, Toyota and Lexus are also set to access as many as 12,000 Superchargers all over North America come 2025, as part of their agreement. It is widely known that Superchargers are DC fast chargers, and among the only few companies that offer it, is also achievable through NACS ports and adapters for others.

Tesla NACS Adoption in the Industry

The power of manifestation is different for Elon Musk, as his initial plans centered on bringing Tesla's brand all over the world, with its EV charging stations, the Superchargers, to be used by all

Back in 2022, Elon Musk and Tesla shared the EV charging connector design it has, and it is now popularly known as the North American Charging Standard (NACS).

Fast forward to a year later, different automakers have opted in for the Tesla NACS, including renowned rivals in the industry, with the likes of General Motors, Ford, Fisker, and more.

However, that is not all, as Tesla NACS' adoption also captured European companies to join and use its design with the first being Volvo, followed by BMW.

There are still more carmakers that are looking to adopt the NACS or are expected to do so, and it does not necessarily mean bowing down to Tesla. Toyota and Lexus are the latest companies to announce their use of the North American Charging Standard, with all of its future EVs soon making the change by 2025, to either have a native NACS port or feature a connector to connect via Superchargers.
