Popular dating app Tinder has unveiled a new feature called "Tinder Matchmaker," which allows users to enlist the help of friends and family in finding potential matches.

This means individuals can receive dating recommendations from people who do not necessarily have a Tinder profile themselves, widening the scope of potential matches.

"For years, singles have asked their friends to help find their next match on Tinder,  and now we're making that so easy with Tinder Matchmaker," Melissa Hobley, Chief Marketing Officer at Tinder, said in an official announcement.

"Tinder Matchmaker brings your circle of trust into your dating journey and helps you see the possibilities you might be overlooking from the perspective of those closest to you."

Tinder Matchmaker Session

To initiate a "Tinder Matchmaker session," a user can do so directly from a profile card or through the app's settings. If they come across a potential match, they can share a unique link with up to 15 people within a 24-hour period. Once recipients receive the link, they can either log into the dating app or remain as a guest.

Tinder describes this feature as transforming contemporary dating into a collaborative effort, effectively incorporating the concept of a "friend test" within the app. Users can now extend invitations to others, regardless of whether they possess a Tinder profile or not, enabling them to peruse and propose potential matches.

This provides Tinder users with valuable insights into the preferences of their friends, yet, as in actual social interactions, the ultimate decision of extending a 'Like' remains with the user.

To enhance user understanding of this new feature, Tinder has partnered with rapper Coi Leray, known for her insights into the complexities of modern dating. Coi Leray is being celebrated as the Matchmaking Monarch of Tinder Court, where she emphasizes the importance of the "friend test" in the dating process.

"Handing your phone over to the friend group was the original vibe check. Obviously you want your friends to like whoever you're crushing on, and Tinder Matchmaker is a fun way to get the bestie seal of approval even before the match," Leray said in a statement.

How Matchmaker Works

A Tinder Matchmaker session can be initiated either directly from a profile card or within the app's settings. Within a span of 24 hours, users can share their unique link with a maximum of 15 friends. When the recipient follows the link, the matchmaker can opt to either log in to Tinder or proceed as a guest.

During the 24-hour session, matchmakers are granted the opportunity to make recommendations before the session expires. While they can suggest profiles for the Tinder user, they are unable to engage in conversations or send messages on their behalf.

After the session, Tinder users will be able to assess the profiles that received recommendations from their matchmakers. Profiles that garnered a "Like" from a matchmaker will be designated as a "recommendation"  while profiles that received a "Nope" will remain unchanged.

The final decision on whom to "Like" still rests with the Tinder user, but they will now be aware of whom their friends are rooting for.

Tinder Matchmaker is currently available in several countries and will be introduced to Tinder users worldwide in the coming months. These countries include the United States, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, and Vietnam.
