DoorDash has unveiled a suite of new in-app safety tools tailored to enhance the safety of its delivery personnel. These tools encompass driving insights, an expanded integration of Apple CarPlay to more states, and the introduction of speed limit notifications directly within the in-app navigation interface.

DoorDash Driving Insights

The driving insights feature marks a significant stride towards personalized safety for DoorDash drivers. Leveraging the existing location data collected through the Dasher app, the platform will now be able to identify abrupt changes in acceleration and braking patterns.

By providing Dashers with tailored insights into their driving behaviors, DoorDash aims to empower them with a deeper understanding of their habits, ultimately promoting safer practices on the road.

This feature initially launched in Phoenix and Salt Lake City during the pilot phase, has already garnered positive feedback from Dashers.

Encouraged by this reception, DoorDash is extending the pilot program to eight additional cities, including major metropolitan areas such as Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Detroit, Cleveland, Miami, Charlotte, and Palm Beach.

"At DoorDash, our goal is to create the best possible experience for all Dashers and for the communities we serve, which is why we're constantly working to help make every dash even safer," Austin Haugen, Vice President of Dasher Product, said in a press statement.

"Testing these new features is another important step toward achieving this goal. We look forward to assessing Dasher feedback and will continue to tirelessly work to further improve safety through innovation," he added.

Apple CarPlay Integration Into DoorDash App

The integration of Apple CarPlay into the Dasher app represents another noteworthy enhancement. This functionality allows drivers to seamlessly synchronize their iPhone's interface with their car's built-in entertainment and information systems.

By displaying the Dasher app's navigation interface directly on the car's built-in screens, Dashers can maintain a greater focus on the road, reducing distractions associated with handling a phone.

The pilot program for Apple CarPlay is currently accessible to Dashers in 17 US markets, including key areas such as Washington, D.C., Des Moines (IA), Sarasota (FL), Little Rock (AR), El Paso (TX), Huntsville (TN), Toledo (OH), Grand Rapids (MI), Rochester (NY), Myrtle Beach (SC), Reno (NV), and Augusta (GA).

Additionally, DoorDash is introducing an on-screen indicator within the in-app navigation system, providing Dashers with real-time feedback on their driving speed relative to the established speed limit.

This enhancement seeks to offer Dashers an additional layer of awareness regarding their driving behavior, further contributing to overall road safety.

These newly introduced safety tools complement a range of safety features implemented earlier this year. These include reducing in-app notifications while driving, streamlining one-tap responses to prioritize road safety, and simplifying order declination.
