The unveiling of the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) has shattered records, amassing an impressive 85 million views on YouTube in a mere 22 hours after its release.

According to TechCrunch, this achievement has generated significant buzz and surpassed the previous record-holder, a video by popular content creator MrBeast, for the most YouTube views in a 24-hour period.

However, it is worth noting that this record does not account for music videos, with K-pop icon BTS holding the current record with 108 million views for their song "Butter" within the same timeframe.

Grand Theft Auto VI Is a Decade in the Making

Anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI has been building for a decade, fueled by the prolonged gap since the release of the franchise's last installment, Grand Theft Auto V, in September 2013.

According to Guinness World Records, Grand Theft Auto V achieved the title of "highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours," raking in an impressive $815.7 million on its release day and selling 11.21 million copies.

Initially scheduled for a Tuesday morning release, the GTA VI trailer was leaked a day early on Twitter. In response, Rockstar Games, the publisher behind the Grand Theft Auto series, decided to officially release the trailer and promptly remove the leaked version.

The highly anticipated trailer provides a glimpse into the world of Vice City, featuring iconic landmarks and nostalgic designs from previous releases. It introduces a significant shift by focusing on a female protagonist named Lucia. However, it remains unclear if the game will incorporate character switching, similar to the multiple perspectives in GTA V.

Fans and gamers were treated to a wealth of information in the trailer, unveiling Lucia's storyline as she transitions from prison to the criminal underworld. The video showcases the integration of a TikTok-style social media element, offering insights into the criminal life within the city.

One striking aspect of the GTA VI trailer is the use of the song "Love is a Long Road" by Tom Petty, contributing to the 1980s vibe of Vice City. The graphics have also substantially improved, providing a realistic experience, particularly when viewed in 4K quality.

GTA 6 Trailer Confirms Some Speculations

The trailer's release confirms various leaks and speculations circulating over the years. In particular, rumors about a female protagonist surfaced as early as 2018, and the trailer now affirms Lucia's pivotal role in the game.

The speculation regarding the return to Vice City as the main setting was also accurate. After a decade of requests from GTA enthusiasts, Rockstar Games has officially confirmed the development of Grand Theft Auto VI.

While many questions remain unanswered, the trailer assures fans of a forthcoming release with enhanced graphics, the introduction of the first female lead, and a return to the iconic setting of Vice City.
