The hottest startup company in the AI industry is Mistral, a France-based startup that claims that its new artificial intelligence language model is on par with OpenAI's GPT-3.5 and its performance. This claim is weighted, especially as there is serious competition in the market in which OpenAI's renowned large language model is leading, centering on ChatGPT's current GPT-3.5.

Mistral AI announced its latest language model called the Mixtral 8x7B, and it talked about how it can go on par with OpenAI's GPT-3.5 in the present space. First off, it centers on a mixture of experts model (MoE) with open weights, claiming to be the strongest and features a permissive license, further stating that it is the best overall regarding cost.
In particular, it matches or outperforms GPT3.5 on most standard benchmarks.

In its early stage, the Mixtral 8x7B already boasts 32,000 context tokens to handle. Additionally, it can process other languages including English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish.
On most benchmarks, Mistral said that the 8x7B already outperforms Meta's LLaMa 2 model with as much as six times faster interference.

Mistral's Unicorn Status with $2B Funding
TechCrunch reported that Mistral already reached as much as $2 billion in funding after closing its last investment round and has garnered as much as $415 million in additional funding. This already set the company a "unicorn" status, regarded as one of the fastest growing AI companies present, with the Paris-based startup looking to improve more of its tech and debut more developments soon.
OpenAI and the AI Industry Now
There is no doubt that OpenAI's name cemented itself in the AI space of the world, and the company is one of the most renowned organizations behind the massive growth of machine learning and its adoption. The company claimed that its ChatGPT program already saw 100 million weekly active users, and this was no easy feat to achieve since releasing the AI one year ago.
That being said, it has a massive target on its back and head, with rivaling companies looking to end their parade, with one of its toughest competitors being Google, who recently released the Gemini AI.
While OpenAI's GPT is best known as a large-language model, Gemini offers a foundational and multimodal model that aims to process information more than text inputs.
Another noteworthy rival is that of Meta's LLaMa AI, with the list of OpenAI competitors rising in the market, looking to trump the company and provide a worthy opponent in the AI industry. However, the latest release from Mistral AI may be the rival the world is looking for, using a mixture of expert models to match GPT-3.5's performance that offers significant capabilities for its AI.
