The renowned AI chatbot, ChatGPT, is massive, but just how much? OpenAI answered this question with its recent flex of the chatbot's numbers, claiming to have observed a massive 100 million weekly active users says its CEO Sam Altman. In the recent keynote by the executive, he did not miss out on sharing the current user base of the AI, and this is only after a year since its public availability.

Many revelations were made via OpenAI's first developers conference, a.k.a. DevDay, which also centered on the upcoming products from the company.

The OpenAI DevDay paved the way for a massive showcase by the company, but among its significant announcements here is ChatGPT's growth since it was released in December 2022. According to Altman, the AI chatbot is now seeing 100 million weekly active users, showcasing massive numbers that its technology and developments achieved for its first year.

It was regarded by a UBS study (via Reuters) in a study back in February that ChatGPT set the fastest-growing user base in the "internet space" for 20 years.

Moreover, it is still expected that ChatGPT will grow more in the coming months and years, especially with the latest offers it dropped via the event.

More Products, Experiences, Upgrades Coming for ChatGPT

Among OpenAI's announcements include the all-new GPTs, which allow the creation of custom versions of the AI chatbot meant for specific purposes, with a tailored version to help users. Moreover, this feature will allow users to share the experience with others, with OpenAI claiming that this can be done by simply giving the AI instructions or initiating a conversation in its creative process.

ChatGPT and its Relevance in the World

Before ChatGPT made its way to the public, AI was thought to be years away from getting the experience, more particularly as they are expensive to develop and require a lot to make it work. However, almost one year ago, OpenAI released its first iteration of ChatGPT, the AI chatbot trained under its GPT-3.5 large language model, delivering massive features for all.

During its early days, ChatGPT could only answer questions until September 2021, also known as the notorious "cutoff date" which limited it from getting updated information about topics and the like. However, through massive developments, the arrival of GPT-4, and other developments by OpenAI, it introduced ChatGPT's capabilities to access the internet to create better answers and deliver updated information for all.

With its API now accessible for many, and the recent developments seen via the OpenAI DevDay delivering upcoming features for the AI, ChatGPT is expected to grow more in the future for all to experience. Its current version is already seeing a massive 100 million weekly active users, already signifying the growth of the AI chatbot, as well as its popularity, making it the biggest at present.
