Who said Apple is not working on AI? The latest research from Cupertino's team unveiled the Keyframer last week, centering on a new generative AI tool that helps animate a still, 2D image using text prompts. The Keyframer is now added to the list of Apple's generative AI projects that are yet to be seen by the public, seeing potential in these projects for future creative applications.

Like other Big Tech companies, Apple is also reinforcing its generative AI direction towards offering more for the world but remains unknown where it would be applied to.

Researchers from Apple released a new study that details the company's developments in the world of generative AI, naming this new prototype the "Keyframer." In this AI tool, the company is using a large language model to power the Keyframer, centering on the massive potential this has to offer the user.

Apple regarded that LLMs are "underexplored" with regards to animation, but the company sees great promise for various creative mediums like image generation and writing.

Keyframer offers the animation via text prompts, with the prototype capable of taking SVG (scalable vector graphics) files and transforming them.

Keyframer Can Animate 2D Images via Text Prompts

Apple's Keyframer needs a user to upload an SVG file to the prototype, and users would have to detail a text prompt on what to do with it. Next, Keyframer generates a CSS code to animate the command, delivering the finished product to the user.

Apple said that the tool can create multiple animations in a specific batch, offering various options for users, allowing adjusting properties like colors and animations, and does not need users to be experienced coders to create.

Apple's AI Developments and the Future

Unlike other tech companies, Apple did not jump the gun towards the development of AI features, experiences, and tools on its platforms, something which the likes of Google and Microsoft are best known for doing.

However, that does not mean that there are no AI developments under Cupertino, as there was a rumored generative, ChatGPT-style AI in the works from the company.

Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, also addressed the future of AI in the company, and the executive did not shy this possibility away or deny any developments made by Cupertino's team. As per Cook, the growth of AI is massive, with the executive himself interested in what it offers, possibly hinting at a future where Apple's AI is available, but looks towards observing cautions along the way.

With Apple's cautiousness in developing AI, it is slightly falling behind the competition which offers significant advancements towards making it more available to the public. It is not yet a closed book for Apple and AI, especially with its latest research and development on Keyframer, a generative AI focused on animation, capable of transforming images via text prompts.
