New 'Black Mirror' Season

Netflix has officially announced the revival of Black Mirror for its seventh season, slated to premiere in 2025. The highly acclaimed anthology series will feature six new episodes, with one installment set to be a sequel to the fan-favorite "USS Callister" from season 4, starring Jesse Plemons.

While specific plot details remain scarce, Netflix has teased that the upcoming season will delve into fresh narratives while revisiting the intriguing universe established in previous episodes.

The revelation was unveiled during the Next on Netflix event held at London's Picturehouse Central cinema and cultural venue on Thursday. This preview occasion was packed with casting reveals, content updates, and appearances by Netflix executives and celebrities.

The upcoming season's arrival will mark a relatively short break, especially compared to the usual waiting period between Black Mirror seasons.

While the specific themes of the upcoming episodes remain a mystery, it's reasonable to assume that recent technological developments such as AI and the metaverse could serve as fertile ground for inspiration.

As per tradition, the upcoming season retains its anthology format, with each episode delving into distinct scenarios showcasing the potential impacts of technology on our lives, often veering towards the darker side of innovation.

Bringing Back USS Callister

In the spotlight of the episode was Jesse Plemons, portraying Robert Daly, a skilled yet tormented programmer who played a pivotal role in establishing a renowned online video game

Dissatisfied with what he viewed as insufficient acknowledgment within the gaming industry, Robert crafted a simulated universe within the game, casting himself as a Captain Kirk-esque character aboard a spacecraft.

Plemons' character commands a devoted crew modeled after his actual colleagues, and embarking on eccentric sci-fi escapades. As typical of Black Mirror, the narrative swiftly veered into unforeseen and ominous territory.

The description for the sequel episode hints at continued challenges for the crew of the USS Callister despite the demise of Robert Daly, setting the stage for another thought-provoking exploration of technology's impact on society.

Previous Season Recap

Season 6 debuted last year, presenting viewers with a diverse range of compelling episodes, delving into space-centric terror, a gripping paparazzi narrative, and a satire on the unfolding landscape of streaming, which turned out to be eerily prophetic.

The previous season comprised five episodes in total: "Joan Is Awful," "Loch Henry," "Beyond the Sea," "Mazey Day," and "Demon 79."

Amidst the acclaim for Season 6 Episode 1, The Verge reported that "Joan is Awful" emerged as a standout installment in the renowned anthology series, sparking significant buzz across the internet.

Netflix seized upon this momentum by unveiling two websites that introduce the enigmatic character to the audience, one of which is the formerly fictional platform, Streamberry.
