Amazon Prime Video: More Ads Appear, Users Enraged With Pop-Ups, Stream Disruptions

Ad-supported Prime Video brought more and users are angry.

The latest update on Amazon's Prime Video platform added more ads to users' streams, particularly for those who opted for the cheaper, ad-supported experience and are enraged with the change.

Previously, users may have seen only one advertisement to play in a pre-determined number of episodes or per movie, but now, users claim there were as many as nine ads before they were allowed to watch.

Early this year, Amazon began showing ads to Prime Video users as part of the changes, previously introducing extra fees for an ad-free streaming experience.

Users are now taking to social media to share their latest Amazon Prime Video experience, with many enranged and sharing their frustration on the latest changes to its ads.

The users claimed that compared to before, Prime Video now brings more ads to their streams, which are disruptive to their streaming experiences.

A post from X claimed that the ads now appear within the movies or shows streamed through Prime Video, regarding this as a distasteful move from Amazon.

The only way to avoid said ads is to pay the extra fee Amazon imposed on Prime Video subscribers, which is an additional $2.99 per month on top of the $14.99 monthly ad-supported pricing.

Pop-Up Ads, As Much as 9 Ads Shown on Prime Video

According to one user from Reddit, they were made to watch 9 ads in a row, detailing that when pausing the video, a pop-up would appear, and closing this advertisement launched three to four advertisement clips before the show resumed.

However, when fast forwarding or seeking, it launches ads again, with the user claiming that these totaled nine in the entire experience.

Amazon Prime Video Ads and Changes

Last December 2023, Amazon announced various changes to Prime Video's streaming platform, with the company looking towards bringing ads on the regular subscription but promising not to be disruptive.

The ads will play before a movie or after a certain number of episodes (depending on the run time), but users may opt for the ad-free experience for an extra $2.99 charge.

Users who previously enjoyed ad-free streaming were automatically given ads unless they paid the extra fee.

The full rollout of the ad-supported Amazon Prime Video took place last January 2024, with the United States seeing the full-blown advertisements before their streams. Unlike now, this did not cause much disruption.

While other platforms like Netflix, Disney+, and others offer ad-supported streaming, Amazon is among the few that received backlash for its latest changes to Prime Video.

Users feel that the latest changes on Prime Video went overboard with the ads, expressing their disappointment in the platform for the disruptive and numerous ads now plaguing the streaming app.
