Mortal Kombat X is coming in April, and so far we've only seen a portion of the game's full roster. Might Todd McFarlane's comic character Spawn be included?

It may sound a little far-fetched, but McFarlane says Warner Bros., the publisher of Mortal Kombat, has rights to use Spawn in their video games for a limited time.

In an interview with GamerFitnation, McFarlane says he has given Warner Bros. permission to include Spawn in their games, as he is attempting to build the brand of Spawn into a larger franchise than it is currently. After this brief window for Warner Bros., the rights will return to McFarlane to shop around.

"They have the access to be able to use the character in a couple of their games if they want to. It's up to their discretion," McFarlane says. "I gave them a window of time and I'll just leave it to them to do what it is that they want. I don't know if they're ever going to use it."

That's not exactly a confirmation, but it certainly is a fascinating idea. Mortal Kombat is no stranger to including "guest" fighters. The last Mortal Kombat game included Freddy Krueger from the classic slasher film A Nightmare On Elm Street.

It wouldn't be Spawn's first appearance as a guest fighter either. The character appeared exclusively as a fighter in Namco Bandai's Soul Calibur II on the original Xbox.

Even if Spawn isn't included in the game that ships in April, it is always possible he could be a part of the game's season pass, which will include a number of new characters. Fans have already petitioned Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios to include late GWAR frontman in the game as a tribute, with an online petition boasting more than 27,000 signatures in support of the idea.

There is still time for plenty of Mortal Kombat X character reveals as the game's April 14 release date draws closer. Expect more news soon, and in the meantime check out this guide to all the character's currently confirmed for the game.
