Beauty, as the saying goes, is in the eye of the beholder but one start-up thinks it's actually in the eyelash and has developed what may be the first-ever customized eyelash curler.

Voir Creations says its Custom Eyelash Curler fit the unique shape of a user's eye using a mobile app and 3D scanner, and of course, a few good selfie shots. The technology creates a 3D model of the user's face based off the selfie photographs and the eyelash curler is then created to match the parameters for curling the lashes.

The two-year old startup, founded by biologist Adele Bakhtiarova, has a patent pending on its 3D image and custom curler making technology.

"Voir Creations is passionate about making a positive impact on women's lives by delivering the perfect solution to curling eyelashes," states the company.

Bakhtiarova developed the idea after suffering the pain of not being able to curl each one of her eyelashes, especially those tricky ones on the edge of an eyelid. As she relates the beauty effort often ended up with weird shape lashes and a bit pain from pinching while trying to curl the lashes.

So she set out to make an eyelash curler that does the job right. She created the hardware, got some prototypes developed and got a mobile app built.

Now she's on the marketing and sales effort, pricing the curler at $25.00 and hoping to raise $30,000 to get her product into full production mode. As of Monday, Voir Creations had 77 backers pledging $3,781 with 17 days left in the fundraising campaign. Most of the supporters have pledge $25 which will get them a custom curler complete with two replacement silicone pads (cited as a $35 value on the site.) For an additional $10 a backer can also get a Ruby travel case for the curler. Those willing to pay $50 get two of the custom devices. The product delivery date is August of this year.

The crowd sourcing Kickstarter site is increasingly becoming popular with both start-ups and even legacy tech development companies aiming to fund new innovations as there is an expanding amount of tech innovation happening with 3D printing and development.
