What's the difference between New Mexico and Alaska? If the data gathered by a relatively new sex-tracking app is to be believed, the answer is sexual longevity.

Data gathered by an app called Spreadsheets has been pieced together to rate states in the U.S. in terms of how long their residents last in bed. Spreadsheets, which was released in August last year, is an app that can be used to record data during sexual intercourse.

"We're creating a sort of thermometer for sex," said Tyler Elick, co-creator of Spreadsheets.

The app can be used to record a variety of statistics related to sexual intercourse such as frequency, audio levels and even how many thrusts are made per minute. More important in this case, the app can also track how long each sexual session lasts. Nerve.com, an American online magazine that focuses on sexual topics has used data from Spreadsheets to compile a list of states arranged by order of longevity in bed. The list was compiled using state averages gathered from an estimated 5,000 Spreadsheet users. All in all, over 23,000 individual incidents of sexual intercourse were used to complete the list. Here's the list in with New Mexico coming out on top and Alaska ending up at the bottom of the list.

Previous medical research has shown that sexual intercourse usually lasts anywhere from 3 to 13 minutes contrary to what many people believe. The list compiled using Spreadsheets data seems to support the research. Despite New Mexico's impressive first place finish with an average of 7:01 minutes, this may seem like a relatively short amount of time to some. However, the creators of the list say that the recorded times only included the time spent for the sexual intercourse, foreplay not included.

While the list may provide an entertaining and possible enlightening facet of sex, the app creators themselves are skeptical about the veracity of the results. Elick believes that some users may be unconsciously tainting the results when they bring up to app to show it around to friends and colleagues.
