While Sony smartphone owners who do not own the Xperia Z series handsets may be fretting as their devices will not benefit from the much-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update, Xperia Z family of phone owners can rejoice as the update is set to make its way any day.

Owners of the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z2 or Xperia Z3 Compact in the U.S. are set to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in the coming weeks, but within March this year.

The latest information is courtesy of Sony's R&D team in India, which let the cat out of the bag per justaboutphones.com. The publication has managed to lay its hands on a "software update release schedule" of Sony's India R&D team, which is dated March 8, 2015.

The screenshot of the schedule shows the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z2 listed with the update status of Android 5.0 Lollipop being shown as finalized. The OTA release section shows the software update status as "now uploading." Therefore, we can safely presume that the update is being uploaded to servers with the release imminent.

Per the publication, the R&D team has also revealed that the software update will weigh 630.23MB and 517.86MB, for the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2, respectively. With Android 5.0 Lollipop set to make its way "any time soon now" Xperia Z device owners will benefit from several new features and enhancements.

Sony Mobile Indonesia has already revealed via its official Facebook page that the Xperia Z devices in the region will benefit from Android 5.0 Lollipop post week 12 i.e. from March 16. The company also posted a changelog that reveals the following features - intelligent UI, better screen lock, multi-user support and optimal storage - will make its way to users. Users will also be able to shift apps to their SD card.

This OTA update will allegedly weigh 1.2GB and take 20 minutes for installation.

Xperia devices that are expected to benefit from the Android 5.0 Lollipop update - apart from the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z2 - include the Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia ZL, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z and Xperia ZR.

Those who are eligible for the OTA update ensure that you have more than 50 percent battery charge on your device and a minimum of 640MB free memory prior to downloading the Android 5.0 Lollipop software update.
