Motorola has a bevy of robust and sleek-looking handsets that consumers can choose from. These smartphones fit every budget and requirement.

We check out which of the following Motorola smartphones is the best purchase: Moto G 4G (2015), Moto X (2014), Droid Turbo and Moto E (2015).

Dimensions

The Droid Turbo measures 5.65 x 2.89 x 0.31-0.42 inches, making it the tallest and widest of all the four smartphones. It is also the sleekest of the lot. However, the thickness of the Droid Turbo is calculated on the basis of its curve and can vary from the Metallic Red / Metallic Black model to the Black Ballistic Nylon variant, which is slightly thicker.

By comparison, the Moto E (2015) measures 5.11 x 2.63 x 0.48 inches; the Moto X (2014) measures 5.54 x 2.85 x 0.39 inches; and the Moto G 4G measures 5.57 x 2.78 x 0.43 inches.

In terms of weight, the Droid Turbo can weigh either 169 grams (Metallic Red / Metallic Black) or 176 grams (Black Ballistic Nylon).

The Moto E, Moto X, and Moto G 4G weigh 145 grams, 144 grams, and 155 grams respectively. The Moto X model is therefore the lightest of all the four Motorola smartphones.

The Moto E (540 x 960p) has a 4.5-inch IPS LCD screen, whereas the Droid Turbo (1440 x 2560p) and Moto X (1080 x 1920p) sport a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display.

The Moto G 4G has a 5-inch IPS LCD screen with 720 x 1080 pixels resolution.

All four smartphones come with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. However, the Moto E has an oleophobic coating, which prevents scratches.

Regarding pixel density, the Droid Turbo boasts 565 ppi followed by the Moto X with 424ppi, Moto G 4G with 294ppi, and lastly Moto E with 245ppi.

The Moto E LTE model houses a Snapdragon 410 quad-core Cortex-A53 processor, which is clocked at 1.2GHz. By comparison, the Moto G 4G packs in the slightly older Snapdragon 400 quad-core Cortex-A7 processor, which is clocked at 1.2GHz.

The Moto X houses a much faster Snapdragon 801 quad-core Krait 400 processor, which is clocked at 2.5GHz. The Droid Turbo, however, beats all three smartphones on this count since it touts a Snapdragon 805 quad-core Krait 450 processor, which is clocked at 2.7GHz.

Memory

The Droid Turbo comes with 32GB/64GB on-board storage capacity, whereas the Moto E and Moto G 4G have only 8GB and 16GB respectively. The Moto X is available in 16/32/64GB capacities.

While the Droid Turbo and Moto X do not offer the option for memory expansion, the Moto E and Moto G 4G support up to 32GB of additional storage via a microSD card.

In terms of memory, the Moto X and Droid Turbo are the best options. Even though the other two smartphones have additional memory support, these amount to only 40GB.

The Droid Turbo has the highest internal memory with 3GB of RAM; Moto X has 2GB of RAM; Moto E has 1GB of RAM; and Moto G 4G has 1GB of RAM.

Camera

When it comes to camera performance, the Droid Turbo with its 21MP rear-facing camera is the clear winner, followed by the Moto X (13MP), Moto G 4G (8MP) and Moto E (5MP).

If taking selfies is your concern, then opt for either the Moto X or Droid Turbo as both sport a 2MP 1080p front-facing camera. The Moto G 4G has a 2MP camera, whereas the Moto E has a VGA one.

Battery

The Droid Turbo has a non-removable 3,900mAh battery that offers support for up to 48 hours of usage, the highest of the four smartphones. The Moto X houses a non-removable 2,300mAh battery that supports 24 hours of usage.

Both the Moto G 4G and Moto E have a 2,390mAh non-removable battery that lasts 24 hours.

Pricing

The unlocked Moto G 4G is currently not available in the U.S. The unlocked Moto E (2015) costs $119.99 and is available in black and white.

The unlocked Droid Turbo (32GB) will set you back by $549.99 and comes in black and red. The Ballistic Nylon variant is available in blue and black for the same price.

The water-resistant Moto X (2014) starts at $399.99 and is available in black and white.

With a Motorola smartphone to fit every budget, it is ultimately the preference for a big screen, good camera or robust battery life that tilts the scales in favor of one phone over another.

If budget is no constraint, then the Droid Turbo wins on all counts. However, if you're budget-conscious, then the Moto X is a great buy.
