With X-Men: Apocalypse poised for a 2016 release, Marvel fans can look forward to meeting Jubilation Lee, who will be played by actress Lana Condor.

But who really is Jubilation "Jubilee" Lee? Here's everything you need to know.

Jubilation Lee first appeared in the Uncanny X-Men issue #244 in 1989 and was the brainchild of Marc Silvestri and Chris Claremont.

She is a Chinese-American who was born to an affluent family that resides in Los Angeles, California. Lee is raised in the upscale Beverly Hills and her parents are immigrants. Living a seemingly charmed life, Lee attends an exclusive school in Beverly Hills and has a notable talent in gymnastics. Her potential is so great that it is believed that she could even participate in the Olympic Games.

However, instead of channeling her talent in positive pursuits, Lee, along with her best friend, engages in petty thefts. A mall rat, Lee spends a large amount of time in malls. However, one day, she is trapped by a pair of mall cops in a dead-end alley as she is escaping from one of her heists. Fearful of her parents' reaction and that she may suffer juvenile detentions, Lee panics and suddenly her mutant abilities get activated for the first time. As a result, the alley gets destroyed.

Following the incident, Lee shares her newfound abilities with her parents and soon learns to control them. A tragic event leaves her parents murdered at the hands of criminal duo Reno and Molokai, who have been hired by Hunter Brawn. Brawn stages the murder as a car accident.

An orphaned Lee's charge is handed over to a couple in her neighborhood, but she soon runs away to live at the mall — the closest thing to home for her. She survives by giving demos of her latent mutant plasmoid powers in return for spare change. Lee also continues to steal in order to make ends meet. Many are impressed by her super powers.

However, because of her thieving nature, the mall cops (who are unable to catch her) get exasperated and call on the M Squad, which is notorious for hunting down mutants.

It is at the mall that she encounters the X-Men for the first time, which would change her path and make her a superhero.

Lee espies Storm, Rogue, Dazzler and Psylocke, who are visiting from Australia thanks to a portal that was created by Gateway. Lee notices the female X-Men and is immediately enamored by their poise and beauty. While she is following them around in the mall, the M Squad suddenly attacks her.

Seeing the attack, Storm, Rogue, Dazzler and Psylocke fight off the M Squad, defeating them with ease. The four return to Australia through the portal. However, without their knowledge, Gateway leaves the portal open for enough time to give Lee the opportunity to follow them via it. Jubilee's journey begins here.

While Jubilee was introduced in Uncanny X-Men, it was only later that she went on to become a part of the group herself. She eventually becomes Wolverine's sidekick, fighting alongside him and joins the X-Men as part of the "Blue Team."

Jubilee is the youngest in the group at the time, and her character is defined by her outgoing, vivacious nature. Jubilee also shows her emotions freely and instead of wearing the X-Men uniform, she wore a yellow coat, gloves, boots and sunglasses — which became her trademark costume.
