The fast food breakfast wars are heating up. Your local McDonald's may start serving breakfast all day, every day.

McDonald's will start testing an all-day breakfast menu at some San Diego-area locations next month, the company said in a statement, according to The Associated Press. The test will include a partial after-breakfast-hours menu that will include McDonald's breakfast sandwiches and hash browns.

The company said that this experiment is the result of customers expressing interest in eating McDonald's breakfast outside of its regular cut-off hours of 10:30 a.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. on weekends at most locations. Well, duh. I'm pretty sure customers have wanted McDonald's to serve all-day breakfast ever since the fast food chain added breakfast items to its menu.

If you need further proof of that, just see the 1999 Adam Sandler movie Big Daddy. See? You weren't the only one that thought McDonald's stopped serving breakfast at 11 a.m.

This isn't the first time McDonald's has toyed with the idea of serving breakfast at all hours of the day. McDonald's included some breakfast items on its new After Midnight menu introduced in 2013, which featured the classic Egg McMuffin. The company also announced last year that it was seriously considering serving breakfast all day at its restaurants.

Why are there certain hours when breakfast can and cannot be served at McDonald's anyway? This is the explanation McDonald's provides on its website:

"Here's the thing: it comes down to the sheer size of kitchen grills. They simply don't have the room for all of our menu options at one time — especially considering we use our grill to prepare many items on our breakfast menu."

It's unclear how McDonald's suddenly plans to resolve this space issue with this upcoming test, but the prospect of all-day breakfast at the fast food chain is undoubtedly exciting. This switch-up also couldn't come at a better time for McDonald's. Breakfast is becoming an increasingly popular meal of the day for people to grab on the go. As McDonald's sales continue to decline, the company is trying to beef up its beloved breakfast, especially as competitors like Taco Bell and Dunkin' Donuts introduce new and intriguing offerings.

However, you don't always have to serve some crazy hybrid food to catch the attention of customers. Sometimes an oldie but a goodie is all that they want.
