A new report out today claims that U.S. preorders for Samsung's new flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, are double those for last year's launch for the Galaxy S5.

Samsung is currently on a roll, with the reaction to and interest in its latest devices at the highest levels in years. The company introduced its new flagship smartphone duo, the Galaxy S6 and curved display Galaxy S6 Edge this month at Mobile World Congress, and they have been a huge hit leading up to their release.

When preorders began in Europe, it became clear that the company had a hit on its hands. For example, in Switzerland, preorders for the new smartphone duo are four times that of the preorders for the S6 duo's predecessor, the Galaxy S5. While specific numbers from other regions were unavailable, reports stated that Samsung was quickly ramping up production of the new smartphones to meet demand. The Galaxy S6 Edge in particular has been extremely popular, and reports state that Samsung is looking to triple production of the device, despite difficulty in manufacturing the unique curved edge screen that makes the device so appealing.

Preorders for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge began on March 27 through AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Best Buy. Verizon preorders do not begin until April 1 as the company previously announced. The phones are slated to be available to customers on April 10, but T-Mobile has already begun shipping some of the smartphones to customers who preordered. Now, after four days of active U.S. preorders, a new report confirms what many suspected: The U.S. preorders for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are double that of the preorders for the Galaxy S5 last year.

The report does not specify whether the preorders are double the total amount of preorders for the Galaxy S5 last year or double the amount for the same four-day period that the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have been available. In either case, if the report is accurate, these numbers bode extremely well for Samsung and point to a successful launch for the company's new flagship smartphones.
