Sometimes nothing is more satisfying than a cheeseburger off McDonald's dollar menu. But when we're looking for high-quality burgers, the fast food chain isn't the first option to enter our minds.

Now, in an attempt to get more stomachs rumbling for its food, McDonald's is beefing up the menu with new Sirloin Third Pound burgers that will roll out for a limited time later this month.

According to McDonald's spokeswoman Lisa McComb, the new burgers will be "thick and juicy, and high-quality topped with real and fresh ingredients."

There will be three new Third Pound burgers added to the menu. The classic version is called Lettuce & Tomato Sirloin Third Pound burger, which comes with lettuce, tomato, red onion, white cheddar cheese, pickles, mayo, mustard and beef seasoning.

The Bacon & Cheese Sirloin Third Pound burger has bacon, red onions, white cheddar cheese, pickles, ketchup, mustard and beef seasoning; and the Steakhouse Sirloin Third Pound burger has sautéed mushrooms, white cheddar cheese, grilled onions, a new creamy peppercorn sauce and beef seasoning.

The new upscale big, beefy burgers will all cost $4.99 and be served on the same Angus Third Pounder buns.

You may remember that McDonald's previously sold the Angus Third Pounder burgers for four years before ending their run in 2013 because many criticized them for being too pricey at $4.49.

The new sirloin options just about reach the $5 mark — the lowest price that "high-quality" burgers are commonly sold for.

McDonald's decision to bring back the bigger burgers comes as the brand continues to compete with chains like Five Guys and Chipotle. Offering more upscale menu items will help draw in customers who enjoy the casual fast-food dining chains.

Adding to the upscale air, it appears that McDonald's will be serving them on wood boards.

The latest menu additions make just one of many recent announcements from the popular fast food chain. Back in October, it launched a "create your own hamburger" option in Australia, it announced in March that it will no longer serve chicken raised on antibiotics, and began testing out an all-day breakfast menu in some California locations.

The new $5 sirloin burgers will hit some New York City locations next week, and will be launched nationally May 11.
