After a series of mysterious teasers, it looks like it's official: this year's Call of Duty will see the return of the Black Ops series with Call of Duty: Black Ops III.

A new video titled "Back In Black" and ending with a roman numeral three confirms what has widely been speculated for months. We know almost nothing about the game so far, other than it is developed by Treyarch and will likely come out this year.

The teaser trailer ends with an official reveal date for the game - Sunday, April 26.

While we don't know much, the teaser trailer may provide some clues. It's mostly audio from some of the previous titles, as swirling numbers and symbols form images reminiscent of the box art of the previous Black Ops games.

The original Black Ops released in 2010 and followed the journey of Alex Mason in what started as a semi-normal Call of Duty campaign and slowly revealed itself to be borderline science fiction.

Black Ops II released in 2012 and took the series to the year 2025, where players lived through flashbacks taking place in the 1980s while also playing as Mason's son in the future.

Where might Black Ops III take players? It's hard to say. The Black Ops games are connected with some shared themes and characters, so expect Black Ops III to do much the same. Perhaps the numbers in the teaser trailer might provide some clues as well? We will leave it up to Internet cyber-sleuths to decipher this code.

Expect the April 26 reveal to focus on the single-player aspect of this latest Call of Duty. Typically Activision will reveal their new titles in the franchise with a trailer or demo at E3 before showing off the game's multiplayer later down the line. Of course, the Black Ops series has always shrugged off conventions, so perhaps we will see some multiplayer come April 26 after all.
