Star Wars fans will be pleased to learn that director Gareth Edwards has divulged some juicy details on the plot of the impending Star Wars: Rogue One.

At the Star Wars Celebration festival that was held on Sunday, April 19, in Anaheim California, Edwards showed off an early teaser of the upcoming Disney movie which stars Felicity Jones.

Star Wars: Rogue One is the first movie in the Star Wars Anthology series, and it will have as its premise a band of rogue fighters who will gang up to rob plans for the Death Star.

The official Star Wars account also tweeted a description of the same:

Star Wars: Rogue One, which is a spin-off of the popular TV series (Disney prefers to call it Anthology) will occur between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope. Star Wars fans will immediately identify the latter as the first Star Wars flick in 1977.

The upcoming movie will see Jones essay the role of a rebel soldier as well, whose character is part of the group whose mission is to steal plans for Death Star.

The teaser for Star Wars: Rogue One shown at the fan festival opened with a bird's-eye view of a lush green forest cover. A TIE fighter is spotted hovering above the foliage prior to the camera zooming out to show the Death Star. The voiceover explains that "For over a thousand generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times. Before the Empire."

The teaser ends on a frightening note as distress messages from possibly pilots or soldiers waft over a radio frequency. The sound and title card then fades away as if there has been a sudden disruption.

Star Wars: Rogue One is slated for a December 2016 release.
