One of the reasons that Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV is still being played on PCs today - nearly seven years after its initial release - is because of the modding community. Players have turned what was a great game into something else entirely: with mods, you can turn into Iron Man, drive a piano and send yourself flying across the map with the push of a button.

Grand Theft Auto IV was fun on its own, sure - but with mods, it's an entirely new game.

While Grand Theft Auto V was only recently released on PC, the new game's modding community is starting to form. Once the basic tools were created, players were given the ability to do just about anything in the game - though one team is headed in a slightly different direction.

iCEnhancer was one of GTA IV's most popular mod, and for good reason: it reworked much of the game's presentation, and continuously improved GTA IV's graphics over the course of several years. Now, the latest version of the mod is getting ready to hit Grand Theft Auto V...though the graphical improvements may be a bit harder to spot in the mod's early incarnations.

It's important to note the mod is still in the very early stages of development: as it stands, most of the tweaks are subtle changes to Rockstar's graphical engine. This isn't a major overhaul of how the game works, but a blend of multiple, subtle changes that affect how Grand Theft Auto V handles its graphics.

That's not to say that the mod isn't ambitious: even now, the iCEnhancer can make quite a few changes to GTA V's graphics. Character-specific post-processing, depth-of-field, water and lighting systems and even the amount of fog can be tweaked through the mod. Rockstar already gave players plenty of options to change how the game looked, but the iCEnhancer takes it even further.

Again, the mod's still being worked on, so there's no real release date quite yet. It's easy to see that it's an ambitious project - if the GTA IV version is anything to go by, fans can expect Grand Theft Auto V to get even prettier from here on out.
