Fans of IDW Publishing's comic book titles are in for a treat and now have even more ways to enjoy their favorite titles, such as Locke & Key, Judge Dredd and Star Trek.

The company recently launched all-new comics apps, created by iOS developer Madefire, for iOS devices that feature all of IDW's titles, including comics and graphic novels with a new store that allows searching and buying comics from within the app itself (something the iOS version of ComiXology doesn't currently allow).

The main app is the IDW comics app, but the company also has individual apps for its more popular titles, including Transformers, Star Trek and TMNT.

However, if you're not operating an iOS device, don't fret: the company will release versions of the apps later this year for Android and Windows, and even has plans to eventually release the apps on video game consoles and TVs.

"We're very proud to partner with IDW," says Ben Wolstenholme, CEO of Madefire. "Their world-class content is now matched with a world-class digital experience for readers. Using our Motion Book Publisher platform, IDW has control of their apps, storefront, and digital comic formats from PDF to fully immersive Motion Books. IDW is taking digital comics to the next level, and this is just the start!"

To sweeten the deal, anyone who downloads the main app before July 12 with a new account gets 15 free collected editions of comics, along with many of IDW's motion books.

These apps put IDW's digital offerings in direct competition with DC's ComiXology and Marvel's digital services. Based on the list of features (not to mention IDW's apps' future device compatibility), these new apps could make IDW the clear-cut winner in the digital comics race.

For those already using IDW's existing apps, all apps will receive an automatic update on your devices. IDW assures existing app users that their comic libraries will remain intact and their comic collections will sync seamlessly with the new apps with just a few steps as outlined on the IDW comics apps FAQ.

Compared to other comics companies, IDW adopted digital comics early on, in 2009. The company partnered with ComiXology in 2011 for their own apps, and you can still find the entire IDW catalog on ComiXology's apps.
