HTC has announced a software update for HTC One M9 in selected territories and markets that aims to fix some issues encountered with its flagship smartphone. The software would be brought to the latest version 1.40.401.5 through an over-the-air update to HTC One M9 users in the Middle East, Africa and Europe starting June 10. The said update has been initially released in Taiwan a few weeks ago and is scheduled for roll out to North America owners later this month.

A key aspect of the smartphone that has received the most criticism is HTC One M9's featured camera. The enhancements mentioned in the update changelog include a superior auto-exposure balance algorithm to improve overexposure so photos would appear less washed out and a reduction of green/yellow hue to pictures captured in extreme lighting settings, so colors look more accurate to their actual hue. A reduction of noise and blur in low light would also be incorporated, so that the photos are clearer and detail is more obvious.

HTC also focused on maximizing the battery usage of the HTC One M9 and the updated smartphone should see reduced battery consumption while using the pre-installed apps Facebook and YouTube.

The metal build of the HTC smartphone also enhanced the known overheating issues of the Snapdragon 810 chipset, which powers the HTC One M9, especially during charging, so the software update introduced a new heat management system and now should have a smart charging thermal improvement. The outer temperature of the device should now be cooler while charging and playing it with graphic intensive games or other heavy tasks.

It is important to note that the list of improvements to the camera and battery is just a maintenance update, and the smartphone would still boot Android Lollipop 5.0.2. HTC has not made any official statement yet regarding the Android Lollipop 5.1 roll out for its HTC One M9, but the owners would definitely appreciate that HTC has been aware and listening to the complaints regarding its flagship smartphone.

Stay tuned for official announcements from carriers about the roll out of the latest version of Android as it should bring more enhancements and bug fixes for a better HTC One M9 overall experience.
