The world of Dragon Age's Thedas is a big place. Though the game's have covered a large portion of the world (Ferelden, Orlais, Kirkwall), there are plenty of other regions left unexplored. Fans of the series then may want to pick up the new Dragon Age comic coming from Dark Horse this winter, as it will be our first look at the capitol city of the powerful and ancient Tevinter Imperium.

That, however, is just one of many reasons to be exciting about the new series, titled Dragon Age: Magekiller. Fans will also get a glimpse at the state of the world after the event's of Dragon Age: Inquisition, the award-winning game from Bioware that released last year. The first arc of the series will run alongside the events of Inquisition, with issue two corresponding to the destruction of the Conclave, the event that kicks off the game. Once the first arc concludes, however, writer Greg Rucka will be striking out into brand new territory.

Magekiller will be the story of Marius, a mage hunter, and Tessa Forsythia, his handler. The pair are mercenaries, looking to hunt down those who wield blood magic in order to harm others: for a price, of course. But their latest job from a powerful client may be more than the pair bargained for.

Like the games, the conflict between magic and non-magic users will serves as an important backdrop for the series. As Rucka tells Polygon, a world where some are gifted with powerful abilities and others are not is instantly a cause of tension.

"It is incredibly problematic, and it's problematic on every level," Rucka says. "It's problematic on a social level, on a political level, on an economic level, on an interpersonal level, on a spiritual and religious level. If you have societies that have some people who have the ability to - literally! - alter reality, and everybody else can't, then you have a immediate tension."

Some characters from the game series will make an appearance, but Rucka says he wants to focus on expanding the world of Dragon Age. He is a big fan of fantasy RPGs and Dragon Age in particular, so he is looking to craft a story that within anybody's Dragon Age: Inquisition playthrough, regardless of the various choices they made over the course of the game.

Another reason fans should be excited is is that Rucka will once again be partnering with artist Carmen Carnero for the book. The pair has already proven they work well together on Marvel's Cyclops series, so fans should have plenty to look forward to.

Dragon Age: Magekiller is coming in December.
