The live action adaptation of the popular anime series Attack on Titan is coming to North America this fall courtesy of Funimation. Now we have the first full-length, English subtitled trailer for part one of the two part film, and it features a ton of new footage for fans to gawk over.

The more than three-minute long trailer (via IGN) starts much like the anime, with friends Eren, Mikasa and Armin all enjoying their quiet lives behind the massive walls of their city. That all changes when a colossal Titan smashes through the wall with ease, letting in a horde of giant, man-eating monsters.

From there the three friends enlist with their nation's military to defend their homes from the encroaching monsters, using cannons, guns, bows and arrows and swords. The Titans seem invincible but as the trailer points out, they have one weakness: the nape of the neck. Strike hard there and the Titan will fall.

All the while various mysteries are presented. Where do the Titans come from? Why is one Titan fighting another? Is there some greater, more sinister threat lurking behind these attacks?

These are questions watchers of the anime and readers of the Attack on Titan manga will already know the answers to, but it's still nice to see them presented here in the first subtitled trailer. Not to say that the film will be a straight adaptation of the source material. There are a number of changes present, from the cast of characters to the overall setting. This version of Attack on Titan takes place in a future version of our real world, which explains the modern architecture and why we've seen images of machine guns and bazookas in various posters for the film. We will just have to wait and see what that means for the film's story.

Attack on Titan Part One releases Aug. 1 in Japan, with part two following in September. Funimation will be releasing part one this fall in North America for a limited theatrical release.
