Patients using cannabis as treatment for an ailment have been recognized and accepted, even given IDs as pot users. A law has also been signed, forbidding health care providers to deprive medical marijuana users of organ transplants. Companies are now operating in select states to manufacture cannabis.

Medical marijuana has definitely come a long way since it was legalized in California about two decades ago. Medical benefits have been proven in people and now, in pets too.

Dog owners in Berkeley are going crazy over pot-induced treats, saying that these treats actually cure their best friends of their ailments.

The cannabis-based Treatibles are becoming a huge hit because of its calming effects on dogs experiencing separation anxiety and other types of stress. The pet store Holistic Hound has its Treatibles flying off the shelves, into the cash register, out the door and into sick dogs before you can say 'arf!'

"I've never seen a product that has had such broad popularity and interest," said Holistic Hound manager Dianne Krenzer. She added that both people and animals have endocannabinoid systems that have receptors that positively react to CBD, which become beneficial when a dog is under stress.

According to Auntie Dolores, the Oakland-based company that makes these treats, they only contain CBD, but not THC, so dogs don't get high.

Andrew Mizia tried the hemp-based biscuits on his dog Fred who was having anxiety around other dogs. Mizia said the treats were able to calm his dog down a little bit, so he wouldn't have up his hackles and be so on guard around other dogs.

Another dog-owner named Wendy said she tried the miracle treats on her 19-year-old dog Kali who had been suffering from chronic pain. She was about to get the dog euthanized, but the treats actually "brought her dog back."

The treats are especially known to be effective in dogs that have anxiety, but have also been said to cure arthritis and epileptic seizure in dogs. It has had a number of positive effects on canines that even their owners are attempting to try them out for themselves.

Veterinarians, however, say efficacy is not research-based, and advise pet owners to better check with them first before trying out these products. The dog-lover community, on the other hand, see Treatibles as not just dog treats, but dog ailment treatments too.
