Dropbox has hired Todd Jackson, a former Twitter executive, to become the company's first ever VP of Product, which is a new position in the organization chart what was created by the company.

Jackson, a software engineer who has found employment in big names such as Twitter, Facebook and Google, is the second big hiring made by Dropbox this month to shore up its executive team.

While Jackson will not be having the same title, he will be filling the vacant role that was previously occupied by Ilya Fushman, who headed the strategy for Dropbox for Business. Fushman left a couple of months ago to be able to become a partner at Index Ventures.

Before taking over the vacant product strategy position for Dropbox, Jackson was the director of the Content and Discovery teams of Twitter, which was tasked with organizing over 500 million tweets that were sent daily. Jackson has been working with Twitter since the spring of 2014, when the social network purchased Cover, which is his mobile app startup.

Before starting up Cover and working with Twitter, Jackson was the leader of several significant projects that include redesigning the Groups and News Feed of Facebook, both of which are very important products for the social network. Jackson was also a leading figure in guiding Gmail through the email service's so-called hyper-growth phase.

"I've been a Dropbox user forever, and found it completely essential when running my company," said Jackson in a statement.

Jackson has not yet officially started with his employment in Dropbox. Once he does, he will be reporting to Drew Houston, the CEO and co-founder of the file storage and sharing service.

In his new role as the VP of Product for Dropbox, Jackson will be leading the product management aspect of the company, which includes monitoring the building and scaling of the products of Dropbox.

Jackson's hire by Dropbox comes after the company recently hired another technology industry veteran.

Last week, Dropbox hired Thomas Hansen to become the company's Global VP of Sales & Channel. Hansen will be leading the direct sales and channel teams of Dropbox for Business, along with the customer success team, beginning in August.
