Apple could be treading on Android's turf as the company is reportedly seeking out software engineers who are well versed on the platform.

A job requirement posted by Apple on Wednesday, Aug. 5, notes that the company is "looking for engineers to help [it] bring exciting new mobile products to the Android platform." The ad has fueled speculation that the Cupertino-based company has some big plans up its sleeve.

"Imagine what you could do here. At Apple, great ideas have a way of becoming great products, services, and customer experiences very quickly. Bring passion and dedication to your job and there's no telling what you could accomplish," reads Apple's job posting.

The listing does not indicate what projects Apple wants the Android software engineers to undertake. Which brings one to the question: why would Apple want to hire Android software engineers anyway?

Apple could be looking at exploring other platforms and contemplating porting iOS apps to Android. While iOS is a popular operating system, the apps that are made are currently exclusive to the platform. However, with Apple Music, the company intends to change the situation. It has an Android app for the service in the works, which is set for a fall release.

Apple understands the dynamics of the market and knows that in order for its Apple Music to be successful, it needs to tap into other platforms as well and not stay restricted to iOS. Doing so would give Apple a better hold over the market. This is the reason why Apple also plans to introduce Move to iOS app, which will let Android users convert to iOS.

While these plans from the company are known, it seems Apple is not resting easy and wants to branch off in other directions as well. It has bigger plans up its sleeve and is possibly looking to release more apps for Android and, therefore, is looking to recruit engineers well versed on the platform.

Apple has several plausible apps that could also have an Android version, such as its iTunes Store to challenge Google Play store, iMessage, and Safari, among others. Judging by the job listing, it may not be long before Apple releases more Apps for Android as it sets about developing its team for the purpose.
