It appears that LG won't be alone in the smartwatch chase, as HTC announced they are to launch the HTC One Wear smartwatch, although at present this is only a rumor. Still, if HTC is to enter the market strong, linking it to its flagship HTC One smartphone will go a long way in helping to get users to purchase the new smartwatch, reportedly to be called HTC One Wear.

It would follow the launch of LG's G Watch and the Moto 360 onto the smartwatch market, adding to the Android wearable tech industry where companies appear ready and willing to roll out new watches that are ready to wear with innovative features.

According to the rumors, HTC is reportedly in the works of finalizing the smartwatch and it could be released to the public as soon as late summer, giving it a big push ahead of the fall school year and the big purchasing season in the winter.

The smartwatch has been rumored for some time now within HTC circles and should come onto the market by September at the latest, the reports suggest.

It is to be similar to the Moto 360 and will be polycarbonate or metal, but no specific details have been released by the company and no images of the future device have been published.

Earlier this year, Cher Wang, HTC's CEO, offered some insight into the future of the company's smartwatch efforts: "Many years ago we started looking at smartwatches and wearables, but we believe that we really have to solve the battery problems and the LCD light problems. These are customer-centric problems."

Some reports indicate that the company could launch two versions of the smartwatch, a higher end device and a lower end version to help boost sales. It is unclear when the company will issue more details on the products or deliver images to the media of what they will look like.

But with Apple hosting its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) next week, HTC is unlikely to push out a media barrage until after Apple gets through its preview of products to be launched later this year, giving customers a chance to weigh their options before making a purchase later this year.
