Bjorn Nyland, a programmer who works at the University of Oslo and originally hails from Thailand, has set a new world record with his two-year-old Tesla Model S by driving the vehicle on a 452.8 mile-stretch of land (728 kilometers) after charging it only once.

Nyland, who calls his Tesla "The Millennium Falcon," hit the road with his friend Morgan Torvolt who drove with him alternately and helped him with the documentation of the journey. The duo drove for a total of 18 hours and 40 minutes and kept their speed at an average of 24.2 miles per hour. Their point of origin was at the Supercharger station in Rodekro, Denmark, which also became the end point of their journey.

While Nyland said in the video that they made some mistakes in the planning stage, the duo nevertheless successfully achieved what they really wanted, which was to be able to drive the Tesla at the farthest distance possible on a single charge. That day, the duo drove the Tesla Model S, which is equipped with an 85-kWh battery pack for a total of 452.8 miles. The car has an EPA-certified 253 miles for every charge.

The previous record was set in 2013 after the father and son duo of David and Adam Metcalf drove the Model S with an 85-kWh battery for 423.5 miles (681.6 kilometers).

"@TeslaMotors @elonmusk #P85D setting a new world record in #hypermiling driving 728.7 km/452.8 mi on a single charge," tweets Nyland.

Nyland is not financially connected with Tesla. He's just a loyal fan who likes to set a new challenge for himself and his car. He even has his own YouTube channel which features the performance of his Tesla Model S.

"This channel will mainly be about my Tesla Model S Performance that I received in November 2013. I usually go on weekend trips from Friday to Sunday. And the following week, the video will be published on Wednesday or Thursday. All the video shooting and editing is done by myself," says Nyland.

If Nyland claims that he does all the video shooting and editing, he seems to also excel in that area, judging by the way the new video of his latest hypermiling adventure came out. The background music must have been given a careful thought, while the camera is able to cover every important angle needed to produce a professional-looking video.
