General Motors (GM) has announced that its LT4 engine-powered 2015 Corvette Z06 will boast 650 horsepower.

The car's power and torque ratings brings it at par with other most powerful cars available in the U.S. GM claims that the 2015 Corvette Z06 is in fact the most powerful car the company has ever built!

"The Z06's LT4 supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine is SAE-certified at 650 horsepower (485 kW) at 6,400 rpm and 650 lb-ft of torque (881 Nm) at 3,600 rpm," per the company.

GM engineers suggest that the LT4 engine is light and compact. LT4 has the "highest power densities for an engine of its size."

Steve Kiefer, the vice president of GM Powertrain Engineering says that the LT4 Small Block has set the latest benchmark for torque and power in the company. The engine brings the latest Corvette Z06 at par with most of the available supercars in the U.S. Kiefer adds that despite a powerful engine, the Corvette Z06 is suitable for daily driving.

"It's the very definition of power on demand," says Jordan Lee, chief engineer for Small Block engines. "The new LT4 engine builds on the design strengths of our previous supercharged engine and leverages the technologies introduced on the Corvette Stingray - direct injection, cylinder deactivation and continuously variable valve timing - to take Corvette performance to an all-new plateau. Our new, very compact supercharger also helps the engine make power more quickly, and perhaps more importantly, it helps produce more torque earlier in the rpm band."

The dyno chart of the car indicates that the LT4 engine in the Corvette Z06 produces 625 lb-ft of torque by 2800 rpm.

GM also highlights the key differences between the Z06 and other supercars. When compared to the upcoming GM car, the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is said to have 28 percent less torque. The company also claims that the LT4 in the Corvette Z06 has 134 lb-ft of torque more when compared to the Porsche 911 Turbo S.

The 6.2-liter V8 engine in the 2015 Corvette Z06 puts its predecessors to shame. The previous Corvette Z06 had a 7.0-liter V8 engine that produces 505HP and 442 lb-ft of torque. The Corvette ZR1 was also equipped with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that produced 631HP and 604 lb-ft of torque.

GM is expected to start selling the 2015 Corvette Z06 from Q4 of 2014. The company has not yet announced the pricing of the upcoming car.
