A new video game console from Nintendo is in the pipeline, and with that, the rumor floodgates have opened. The latest rumor claims the Nintendo NX video game system will launch in 2017.

Many fans have come to the conclusion that Nintendo would have launched the NX in 2016, but a 2017 date makes more sense because it would have been five years after the launch of the Wii U.

The general life cycle of a video game console is five years, but when success is strong, the manufacturers usually surpass that number. Clearly, the Wii U is not performing well; hence Nintendo would likely choose to launch the console in 2017.

We also understand from the rumor that the company is also aiming to bring to the market a new handheld console. It will be designed to work alongside the NX, and as expected, it will be more powerful than the 3DS.

However, it is uncertain if Nintendo will launch the handset with a 720p display. We're guessing it may boil down to whether or not the hardware is up to the task, and also if the battery can manage with such a script display for long hours.

It might also come down to whether or not cost will go down before it is time to launch the device.

According to the rumor, the plan right now is to launch the handheld console in 2016. If that is the case, we should get a chance to see what this device is all about at E3 2016, or even before that should Nintendo decide to reveal it at its own event.

For now, the rumored dates make a lot of sense, but as we know with rumors, sometimes they are way off or just complete garbage.

Another aspect of this rumor claims the Nintendo NX is similar in specification to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Nothing concrete was mentioned about what exactly we should expect to see under the hood, but if it is anything like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, then we expect an AMD mobile CPU and GPU.

The RAM should then be around 8GB in size, or maybe a little bit less considering Nitnendo's operating system always tend to be smaller than the competition.

We recommend waiting until Nintendo makes an official announcement before releasing your inner Spartan prematurely. What an embarrassment that would be, right?
