Every dog has its day.

This dog got hers when she recently took on, not one, but two 100-pound bears last Oct. 2.

Jewels, a French Bulldog, and her owners live in Monrovia, California. The owners recently installed cameras because of bears habitually causing damage on their property, a report said.

Jewels apparently had enough as well.

A video of the encounter shows the 20-pound dog chasing the bears around the premises until they eventually climb over the gate and leave. It seems like the bears don't realize what's come to them as they scurry to and fro, frantic and unable to fight back.

For her bravery, Jewels was rewarded with a wealth of treats and a good deal of affection.

Having originated from ancient wolves, dogs are known to be pack animals, regardless of whether they are as large as a Great Dane, or in this case, as tiny as a French Bulldog. Pack animals tend to view their homes as their territory, and their human family as their pack. This means that they will defend both, even to their death.

The French Bulldog or "Frenchie" is a small, domestic dog breed. This breed hails from England and Paris, France (hence, the name). They descend directly from the dogs of the Molossians, which eventually became the Mastiff breed. The Mastiff's sub-family were the Bullenbeisser, a breed generally used for bull-baiting. This blood sport, however, was prohibited in England in 1835, which left plenty of bulldogs "unemployed." So from a sporting breed, these types of dogs were turned into a companion breed. To decrease their size, they were cross bred with smaller dogs. These miniature bulldogs rose to fame and became popular with society ladies, writers and fashion designers in Paris.

French Bulldogs are known to be playful, smart and adaptable. They have the appearance of a smooth coat, heavy bone and a medium or small structure. Being a companion breed, they require close contact with humans, but have fairly minimal exercise needs. They are affectionate towards their humans, and enjoy water.
