Philips has announced that users of Apple devices can now control the lighting of their Hue using Siri.

Philips' Hue is an Internet-of-things device that connects to lighting, allowing users to control their lighting from their smartphone.

Hue Bridge 2.0 will make use of Apple's HomeKit to essentially allow users of the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch to use voice commands to control their lights.

Unfortunately, a new Hue control box is required to make use of voice commands. This is because Apple requires that HomeKit devices have specific hardware, which the previous Hue box lacked. The good thing is that users in this situation have a discount and can purchase the box for $40, while new users will have to pay $60.

The box is basically the same as its predecessor apart from the new HomeKit compatibility and the fact that it is slightly less round in design. A new accompanying app also comes with the new box. Once the box is set up, users can simply use Siri to dim their lights. All the user has to say is "Siri, chill out mode," and Hue will dim the lights.

It's not yet known if Philips will branch out from lighting and apply its system to other parts of the home, which would turn Philips into a bigger player in Internet-of-things systems.
