Earlier this year, Dying Light developer Techland decided to unveil its own version of Red Bull's video game-related promotion, which allowed Destiny players to get a new quest by purchasing cans of the energy drink.

Techland, however, decided to promote something healthier and cheaper by launching its "Drink for DLC" campaign, which encouraged players to stay hydrated and post photos of themselves on social media drinking water. In return, Techland promised new in-game content for free.

The Drink for DLC campaign proved so successful that Techland had over 15,000 photos and videos of Dying Light fans.

The three-part pack includes a new exploration quest in Old Town called "The Fountain of Youth," a blueprint for a new electrocution weapon and two new parkour challenges designed around water.

Dying Light players who purchased "The Following" expansion will get the additional DLC with that download. However, even those players who didn't purchase the additional DLC will get the "Drink for DLC" content automatically downloaded for their copy of the game.

Dying Light released earlier this year. Although the game received regular updates, "The Following" is the first expansion pack for the title and promises a larger area than the original map of the base game.

"The Following" takes the game's protagonist, Kyle Crane, to a dangerous outback, where he doesn't just face zombies, but also a fanatical group connected to the zombie apocalypse. It's up to Crane to infiltrate the group and discover its secrets. The expansion also gives Crane his first vehicle: a customizable dirt buggy.

Because the expansion will contain a lot of additional content, Techland recently announced a price hike for the game's season pass.

"Over the past weeks Dying Light: The Following has almost reached its final stage: main quests, side quests, new skills, and driving challenges are ready," wrote Techland in a press release. "We now are moving into the polishing period. Looking at it, it's clear how big the expansion pack has grown — it could be a standalone title, but since it would mean a launch delay, we decided against it."

Dying Light is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. "The Following" arrives on all three platforms in early 2016, along with the "Drink for DLC" content.
