Kids planning on seeing Wolverine 3 may need to stay at home: the film will receive an R rating upon its release.

The movie's producer Simon Kinberg recently confirmed at a press event for X-Men: Apocalypse that the third Wolverine movie will have enough violence to make it an adults-only affair.

Kinberg also promised that the movie will be more brutal and darker than the previous X-Men or Wolverine movies.

"It's a very radical, bold, different Wolverine than you've ever seen in any of these movies," he told Collider.

The producer also addressed rumors that Patrick Stewart will turn up in the new movie as Professor Charles Xavier before following up with confirmation of the movie's R rating.

"I'm not sure what I'm allowed to say about that. I will agree with you that Patrick Stewart was rumored to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It's violent, it's kind of like a western in its tone. It's just a very cool, different film."

It seems that everyone in Hollywood now feels that R-rated superhero movies are the way to go, thanks to the massive success of Deadpool earlier this year. Even Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will get an R-rated version on DVD and Blu-ray. Comic book fans also recently learned that the release of the animated Batman: The Killing Joke will also get an R rating.

Collider reports that sources already suggested that Fox had plans on considering an R rating for Wolverine even before Deadpool's success, but it's likely that the success of Deadpool helped make the decision final for the Hugh Jackman-starring movie.

As previously confirmed, Wolverine 3 takes place in the future, which suggests that rumors about an "Old Man Logan" storyline for the movie are potentially true. Whatever the case, Wolverine 3 is now not just officially in production, but officially filming as well.

Wolverine 3 has a release date of March 3, 2017.
