The unlocked model of the HTC 10 can work with Verizon's network after all, but a little hack is required.

HTC is currently selling two versions of its new HTC flagship in the U.S. The unlocked model comes in Glacier Silver and Carbon Gray color options and it works with carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile. The second version is the Verizon HTC, which only comes in Glacier Silver.

Although the unlocked model should theoretically work with all carriers, that's not the case. The unlocked HTC 10 doesn't normally work on Verizon's network, so you're either stuck with Verizon's price and color option or you hack the available unlocked model to make it work with Big Red's radios.

Of course, getting the Verizon HTC 10 from the get go is the simplest and safest route. If, however, you want to risk hacking the unlocked version to use it on Verizon, you can with a little tinkering.

The folks over at XDA Developers managed to get an unlocked HTC 10 to work on Verizon's network with S-OFF and root.

First off, you need to unlock the HTC 10's internal storage with S-OFF security settings. After that, you'll need to flash the phone with a new radio image for Verizon and configure some software settings that are normally hidden. For more detailed instructions, check out XDA's tutorial and follow the instructions.

As with all rooting and tinkering, the procedure can cause the device to act unexpectedly so it's only recommended for tech-savvy users. Note that if you decide to go down this path, you do so at your own expense.

Those who already dealed with flashing files and adb should have no trouble with this process, as flashing the HTC 10 to make it work on Verizon is quite straightforward.

Needless to mention, you also need an active Verizon SIM card. Advanced calling features are not currently available, but the XDA team says they could be added later on.

If you decide to give this a try and get your unlocked HTC 10 to work on Verizon's LTE, drop by our comment section below and tell us how it all went.
