Developer Bloober Team announced that the VR-enhanced game would hit the Oculus Quest store on Oct. 29 for $30. It will eventually reach other virtual reality platforms soon.

Blair Witch has been reworked to take advantage of the immersion of virtual reality. Users can now interact with objects naturally using their motion controllers, use a virtual marker to map out their journey, and more ways to interact with their companion dog, Bullet.

What's good about this is that you can definitely pet him in VR. Aside from the scare-factor of entering Blair Witch's terrifying forest, the developer said that new encounters with the game's evil spirit are added.

What makes Blair Witch terrifying?

Blair Witch was based on a movie that was released in 1999. The game consists of mosaic tropes culled from the terrifying horror games of the past decade.

It features a camcorder mechanic, just like Outlast. The player has to venture into a maze-like house with cramped, shifting hallways, just like PT. The result is a comforting kind of horror game.

Although it has a familiar ambiance, Blair Witch still gives a mysterious and violent monster lurking behind the trees, behind the door, and down the hall. Once the creature appears, that's when the panic starts.

There are certain factors that make the game more terrifying. First, the dramatic, cresting music in Blair Witch builds a fever-pitch feeling as the monster slowly approaches the player. Second is the flickering lights that suddenly flare out. Other things that contribute to the dogs growling into the darkness and jump scares.

Gamescom releases a 30-minute demo of the game, showing a few sections at the beginning of the game. It focuses on a young boy that has gone missing in the woods. Ellis, the game's protagonist, will ride in his SUV and drive into the search zone, which the radio describes as the place where a group of people vanished. You'll play as Ellis, who will be accompanied by a search dog named Bullet.
