"Major updates to Horizon and avatar graphics coming soon. I'll share more at Connect. Also, I know the photo I posted earlier this week was pretty basic -- it was taken very quickly to celebrate a launch." Mark Zuckerberg on his updated metaverse avatar demo. (Photo : Image via Mark Zuckerberg )

People on the Internet were not impressed with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's metaverse avatar posted last Aug. 19. Mashable described Zuckerberg's avatar as soulless and had a creepy, dead-eyed look.

People online were quick to point out that the avatar has a "cheap feel" and does not live up to the hype that the tech giant has been building for some time now. The same report from Mashable shares that the CEO promised a major graphics update for Meta's Horizon Worlds metaverse platform in response to the backlash that its previous post gained.

Meta CEO Publishes a 'Better' Version of the 'Soulless' Metaverse Avatar

Last week, Meta premiered their new virtual reality app, "Horizon Worlds," in France and Spain. For a billion-dollar project by a tech giant like Meta, the images revealed were said to be far from impressive.

One of the app premier's snapshots is a new avatar in front of the Eiffel Tower. This, later on, triggered a barrage of criticisms from the Internet, which included comments like the metaverse avatar to an old Nintendo Wii character.

People online were clearly disappointed with what the screenshot from the virtual reality app showed. Insights from other tech correspondents echoed the same commentary: Meta's metaverse ploy is something that is still unconvincing.

A report from Mail Online tells us that Mark Zuckerberg has shared an updated version of the avatar since then. From a stiff and unpolished model, the Meta CEO published a version that shows more defined features. Zuckerberg emphasized that the avatar posted previously was 'rudimentary' and from earlier versions of the virtual reality app.

Mark Zuckerberg's Updated Avatar Looks 'More Human'

Mark Zuckerberg's updated avatar definitely looks 'more human' than the first one, which resembled early versions of Nintendo games and looked more robotic. The new image the CEO posted on Instagram looks more definitive with the addition of depth and lighting. The latest avatar's face portrays an expression that the previous demo lacked.

This reaction from the Internet might be founded on the expectancy that the metaverse might be the next big thing on the web. One can not really blame online mobs to be reacting this way especially when Meta has been headlining this virtual reality project for some time now.

More About Meta's 'Horizon Worlds'

Polygon tells us that "Horizon Worlds" is an online game available on Quest VR headsets. Since its release in December 2021, the virtual reality game recorded a number of 300,000 users along with more than 10,000 virtual worlds created in the application. This number is continuing to grow as Meta is determined to expand the platform along with upcoming plans of moderating.

Meta is also eyeing to bring its virtual worlds to mobile phones soon. The tech company even already started to put up in-game purchases in the virtual game.
