Resignation of Top Executive for Interactive Media Group

Apple will be losing its top executive in charge of media-related software technology. Based on a report from Bloomberg, John Stauffer is exiting the company to join Roblox Corp. as a Vice President of Engineering.

The executive was responsible for core work on projects like Apple's CarPlay, Group FaceTime, and AirPlay. As a Vice President of Engineering, he directly reports to Software Engineering Chief Craig Federighi.

Aside from the mentioned roles, he handled a team of more than 1,000 engineers and was also responsible for most of Apple's media, graphics, display, and communication software technologies on several Apple devices including iPhones, iPads, Apple TV, Apple Watch, and more. He also worked on the upcoming augmented and virtual reality headset of Apple.

Stauffer worked in the company for more than two decades, with 14 years of that as an executive. He was picked by Roblox among the few hundred potential candidates over the last year. Next week will be the start of his work at the new company.

Through this, he will oversee the Roblox Engine, which was described by the company as the heart of the social 3D runtime platform.

According to Axios, he will directly report to Roblox Chief Technology Officer Daniel Sturman, which stated, "John got to see Apple grow from a much smaller company. That's a path we hope, want, and expect to be on." He added that Stauffer's two-decade work at Apple will pay off.

Reason for Leaving

According to 9To5Mac, Stauffer was not looking for a new job when Roblox approached him and offered this role. However, he was very intrigued by what will it contribute to him as a person, which will definitely challenge him.

The report added that his three young kids were very happy with his new role, as all of them play the game. Although he said that he reminded them that this new work will not automatically mean that they will be getting an unlimited supply of Robux, Roblux's in-app currency.

Previous Resignations

Stauffer joins the list of executives that resigned from the company this year. For the past months, several resignations from executives with different reasons were reported by TechTimes, including Former Apple Online Store Vice President Anna Matthiasson, Former Apple Information System Head Mary Demby, Industrial Chief Evans Hankey, and Chief Privacy Officer Jane Horvath.
