The Suicide Squad movie is currently facing difficult times as David Ayer and Warner Bros. appear to be having a hard time finding a replacement for Tom Hardy to fit the Rick Flag role, but this might soon change.

Tom Hardy dropped out of the Suicide Squad movie due to scheduling. However, we find this difficult to believe since it is likely that Hardy would have known beforehand that his other projects would cross paths with Suicide Squad.

The next actor rumored for the role after Hardy stepped down, Jake Gyllenhall, is no longer on the cards since he turned it down, according to rumors. That leaves Warner Bros. and David Ayer in a tight spot because it appears as if Rick Flag is very important to the movie.

The big question right now is who will be cast for the role?

Cinemablend claims that Ayer is eyeing two actors, one possibly more so than the other. The two actors in question are Joel Edgerton and Jon Bernthal, both of which are great at what they do.

Joel Edgerton played Ramesses II in Exodus: Gods and Kings. He didn't do a great job in that role. In fact, it was completely boring in most cases. Because of this, we doubt Ayer would want to have him as Rick Flag unless Warner Bros. gave the go-ahead.

Jon Bernthal is more likely the best bet since he worked with Ayer on the 2014 hit Fury. No doubt, the man is a splendid actor, and most fans know him from The Walking Dead series where he played Shane Walsh. At the moment, however, it is not certain if he would be interested in playing the Rick Flag character, but he might be more inclined to jump in since he's no Tom Hardy and Jake Gyllenhaal -- and he can afford to walk away from big loads of cash.

Suicide Squad is set to begin production in April of this year. The release date is scheduled for Aug. 6, 2016.
