Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse is still a mystery. We know some of the central characters that will be involved, like young versions of Cyclops and Jean Grey. We know the super mutant Apocalypse is probably going to destroy the world in some form or fashion. But this latest teaser image from the film raises way more questions than it answers.

Singer posted the below piece of concept art on Instagram today. It's a little difficult to make out, but that is definitely Angel in what looks like a giant bird cage. He appears to be in a crowded theater of some sort, almost like some kind of traveling freakshow attraction.

This is big news for a number of reasons. For starters, it confirms that Angel will be in the film after sitting out Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past and Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class.

The character was last seen in Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand, which was retconned out of existence anyway. Angel is an original member of the X-Men team in the comics, so it makes perfect sense for him to be here alongside Jean and Scott.

It also gives us one of our best looks yet at the state of the world in Singer's sequel. Is this some alternate future where Apocalypse reigns supreme? Or is this our current world, still hostile to mutants and content with treating them like carnival attractions? Or is this in the past, possibly the 1940s? The stage, lighting and dress seems to indicate that this might be from a time period prior to the 1960s, 70s and present day we've seen in the previous films.

Hard to say for sure, but Angel doesn't look like he is having a great time. Let's hope Singer continues to provide some looks behind-the-scenes at the film via social media. Otherwise it is going to be a long wait.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to hit theaters May 27, 2016.
