“The Sopranos” has been off the air since 2007, but the show’s mystique hasn’t waned in the eyes of hardcore fans. Unfortunately, the untimely death of star James Gandolfini last year closed the door on any future “Sopranos” series or movies. Thankfully, the world has inventive fans on the Internet who can still carry on the show’s legacy with new creations.

The latest "Sopranos" tribute comes from the YouTube channel 8-Bit Bastards, which has recreated the show’s iconic opening credits in Grand Theft Auto V. This recreation is about as authentic as you can get, right down to the camera cuts and the unmistakable theme, “Woke Up This Morning.”

Despite “The Sopranos’” being set in New York and New Jersey, 8-Bit Bastards manages to carry on the show’s legacy in Grand Theft Auto’s fictional west coast city of Los Santos. You can practically smell the fumes emitting from the Lincoln Tunnel and New Jersey Turnpike during this video.

The marriage between “The Sopranos” and Grand Theft Auto V is an obvious one. Both are juggernaut franchises that deal with the unsavory world of drugs and crime, and both are among the most popular properties in their respective mediums.

”The Sopranos” became a cultural icon once it began airing in 1999 on HBO. It lasted six seasons, before its controversial series finale in 2007. The ending purposely left the ultimate fate of the Soprano family unknown in the end, leaving viewers to come up with their own ideas of what happened when the screen went black.

Grand Theft Auto has been just as popular in the video game world, selling more than 150 units over the course of three console generations. The latest installment in the series, Grand Theft Auto V, will also be moving onto the latest generation of consoles, PlayStation 4 and XBOX One, later this year.

You can view the 8-Bit Bastard recreation in the video below. You can also check out their YouTube channel to see a side-by-side comparison between their remake and the real thing.
