Drone-maker Yuneec has announced the release of a new handheld stabilization camera that is called the Typhoon ActionCam, and is aimed at helping users capture video footage on the ground that is as smooth as the footage captured by drones in the air.

The device is very similar to the recent Typhoon Q500 drone, which basically allows users to transfer the 4K camera from the UAV to the Grip that comes with it and control the camera with their smartphone.

"The Typhoon ActionCam is designed to extend Yuneec's advanced camera technology from the sky to the ground," said Shan Phillips, CEO of Yuneec USA, in a statement. "The ergonomic design allows you to take part in the action while capturing ultrastable footage, rather than recording the action from afar with a tripod."

Apart from being able to capture 4K video, the CGO3 camera is also able to record footage at 1080 p/120 fps, and can also take 12-megapixel images. Not only that, but footage is all taken with the 115-degree field of vision. According to Yuneec, the camera is able to run for up to 90 minutes at a time.

The device itself has a number of different modes aimed at making it easier to capture footage. First up is "Pitch Follow Mode," which locks the camera in a front-facing position so that the user can follow motion on their own. The second mode is "Angle Mode," which unlocks the camera and ensures that video captured is stable even if the user moves the device. Users can also mount a smartphone up to 6.4-inches in size, which is used to control many of the device's features.

Of course, this kind of tech won't come too cheap, being priced at $550, but that price does include the CGO3 camera, a smart charger, and a 1,400 mAh LiPo battery. The Typhoon ActionCam is available starting today.
