At the very beginning of Fallout 4, Bethesda teases players with a powerful weapon tucked away behind a master level lock.

You probably remember seeing it. As you exit Vault 111, you'll find the Cryolator behind a class case on the wall. Interacting with the object will make your character say something about returning to get it later, as at level one it's impossible to crack the high level lock that requires level 18, a perception of four and the master lockpicking perk.

That would normally requires more than a dozen hours of leveling up to obtain and a heavy investment into the lockpicking perk, but why do that when you can just return five minutes later with Dogmeat and have your canine companion do all the hard work for you? Normally you can have Dogmeat "fetch" important items for you in the environment. He'll then return with food, ammo and other items in the environment. Take Dogmeat to Vault 111, however, and Dogmeat will stroll up to master locked case and snatch the weapon out of the glass.

It appears this is a glitch of some kind and a glaring one at that. X2X0 in the YouTube video below shows the glitch in action, with various commenter's claiming they've also been able to snag the Cryolator using this method.

Regardless of how you obtain it, you'll definitely want the Cryolator in your arsenal. The weapon freezes enemies, allowing you to shatter them into a million pieces with a bash of your gun. It's pretty darn effective, if we do say so ourselves.

This is far from the first Fallout 4 glitch players have discovered. In true Bethesda fashion, players have experienced a number of issues, ranging from frequent game crashes to enemies and companion characters behaving strangely. While some glitches can be detrimental to the experience, the ability to obtain the Cryolator early is a fun little slip-up that more than a few players will probably be taking advantage of. Just do it fast, as Bethesda is no doubt already working on a fix.

Don't forget to give Dogmeat some love and attention after helping you out. He earned it.
