An iPad Air 3 tablet is reportedly still in the cards despite the recent launch of the iPad Pro. The iPad Air 2 successor could launch as early as March 2016.

Apple fans expected to see a new-generation iPad Air this fall, when Apple held its big unveiling event back on Sept. 9. However, the company unveiled an iPad Mini 4 and an iPad Pro, but made no mention of a new iPad Air iteration.

Nevertheless, the rumor mill keeps churning in anticipation of an iPad Air 3 and various reports hint at exciting things to come.

Just a couple of months ago, Tech News Today reported that the iPad Air 3 would rock a 9.7-inch display with a pseudo-4K resolution of 2334 x 3112 (401 ppi) and would also sport an IP rating for water- and dust-resistance. The tablet is also expected to come with 3D Touch technology for additional functionality and be even thinner than its predecessor.

Under the hood, the upcoming iPad Air 3 will reportedly pack an Apple A9X processor. As International Business Times points out in a recent report, the new iPad Air iteration with an A9X chip could be 20 percent more powerful and 35 percent more power-efficient than the A8X-powered iPad Air 2.

In a separate report, Christian Today noted that the iPad Air 3 will likely come with up to 4 GB of RAM. The Tampa Bay Review, meanwhile, said that Apple will launch a Rose Gold version of its iPad Air 3.

Other rumored specs for the iPad Air 3 include an 8-megapixel iSight camera and a 2-megapixel front shooter, as well as a Touch ID fingerprint sensor for extra security. Storage options are expected to consist of 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB configurations.

While the launch of the iPad Pro fueled rumors that Apple would no longer release a new iPad Air 3, the rumor mill obviously has a different opinion. Yibada recently reported that Apple ordered fewer iPad Pro units because it still plans to launch an iPad Air 3, and now it's back with more info. According to the latest report from Yibada, the iPad Air 3 could debut in March 2016.

Despite the arguably powerful specs, the iPad Air 3 will reportedly come at a more affordable price of $610, notably lower than the price of the current iPad Pro.

It's all in the rumor state, however, so treat all leaks accordingly.
